Beinecke Library Renovation

The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library’s iconic building will undergo a major renovation from May 2015 to September 2016. The library’s reading room will close at 4:45 pm on Friday, May 8; the public exhibition space will remain open through Monday, May 18. A temporary reading room will open in Sterling Memorial Library on Tuesday, May 19, and operate throughout the renovation, though access to some collections may be limited. Please consult our closed collections schedule for information about when specific collections will be unavailable.

The renovation will overhaul the library’s 50-year-old mechanical systems and enhance its teaching and research facilities. We invite you to learn more about the project, and follow our progress as we prepare the library for another 50 years as a world-class center of research and scholarship.
